Residents are being warned about a new wave of scam text messages that claim to come from courts, the DMV, or other government agencies and demand immediate payment, State Police say.

The messages falsely appear to come from the “Connecticut State Police Court,” the “Connecticut Superior Court,” the DMV, or other government offices and threaten license or registration suspension.

State Police stress that government agencies do not demand payments through random text messages.

Officials said people should not click on any links in the messages or reply to them.

Suspicious links, especially shortened or unusual web addresses, are considered a major red flag.

State Police said scammers often use urgency and threats to pressure people into acting quickly.

Residents are encouraged to report the message as a scam.

Officials also recommend verifying any claims directly through an official state website.
