A Town of Chester official who’s accused of shooting a lost DoorDash driver in the back has been released from Orange County Jail, according to online records for the facility.

Records show John Reilly, 48, posted bail Tuesday night.

Reilly is the highway superintendent in Chester. He was being held on $250,000 cash bail, $500,000 bond and $750,000 partially secured bond.

The official is accused of shooting at the 24-year-old male victim multiple times Friday night while the dasher was in his car and trying to find the right house to deliver food. Authorities say the gunfire struck the victim once, resulting in life-altering injuries.

The victim was seen in home surveillance video, exclusively obtained by News 12, trying to deliver a bag of food to a neighboring house moments before the shooting, saying he needed help and was having problems with his cellphone.

Authorities said the incident happened outside of Reilly‘s home while he was off duty.

According to Orange County District Attorney Dave Hoovler, Reilly's scheduled court appearance in Town of Chester Court on Friday has been cancelled. Hoovler said both judges recused themselves in the case and that there's currently no new scheduled date or appearance location until it's assigned to a new local court or Reilly is indicted - whichever happens first.

The case is scheduled to go before a grand jury but an exact date has not been revealed.

The victim’s family tells News 12 that he remains hospitalized but is recovering and “getting better by the day.“
