An 18-year-old Chester man is accused in a bloody assault in his home that sent his father running through the neighborhood looking for help.
Nick Gabler said he had just moved this week into the home of Jayden Rivers, 18, and his father Kevin Rivers, 43.
Police said Kevin Rivers suffered a stab wound to the chest during a dispute in their home on Lake Region Boulevard, and then ran out of the house knocking on neighbors' doors for help.
Gabler told News 12 that he and Jayden Rivers hit it off as friends.
Gabler said, earlier this week, the two of them were hanging out, laughing and splitting pizza and brownies from Pizza Hut.
"He gave me the tour when I first moved in and he seemed really chill," Gabler said. "Never in a million years did I think this would happen."
Rivers was arrested twice in June – once by Chester police and once by New York State Police – and charged with forcible touching.
Some neighbors said Jayden Rivers seemed mischievous, but nothing worse.
"He's just a kid," neighbor Carmen Turco said, "so I didn't think anything of it."
The neighbor who opened her back door Thursday to help Kevin Rivers said the first police officers on scene performed CPR on Kevin Rivers for 15 minutes until an ambulance arrived.
Police said late Friday Rivers is in critical condition at Garnet Medical Center.
The Chester police chief wrote in a press release Friday that Jayden Rivers was immediately arrested at his home.
He was arraigned on one county of felony assault.
He remains in jail on a $250,000 cash bail.
