Homeowners in NY will receive property tax rebate checks, but the amount residents get back depends on location, location, location.

In Hastings, where taxes are high, homeowners will receive about $560 through the basic tax rebate. Senior citizens under the School Tax Relief (STAR) program will get an enhanced rebate of $940 in the village. The next highest amount in Westchester is Briarcliff Manor residents, with a basic tax rebate of $555. In Rockland, the taxes are a little lower and so are the rebates. Ramapo residents will receive the highest rebate of $370. In Orange County, the big winners are Port Jervis homeowners who will get a rebate of $215.

A recent report shows Westchester homeowners pay the highest property taxes in the country. With that in mind, many Hastings residents say the rebate money will go back to pay the property taxes. Westchester homeowners should receive the checks on or before October 28.
