The Harrison community held a charity soccer game on Friday for the high school student who tragically lost his mother in a wrong-way crash last week.
Reyda Lamadrid, 47, was killed and her husband seriously injured when an alleged drunken driver smashed into her car. Students say they immediately wanted to do something to help Joseph Lopez when they learned of his mother's tragic death.
Lopez's teammates on the Harrison High School junior varsity soccer team decided to play a charity game in honor of his family. He had just gotten off a plane after burying his mother in Peru before suiting up and playing.
A moment of silence was held before the game. The money that was raised will go toward helping Lopez and his family.
On top of this tragedy, junior and star athlete Andrew Gurgitano died last Saturday in his sleep from a stroke. His funeral was held on Thursday.
The principal says the students have rallied around both families and will continue to do so.
