Those who knew beloved paramedic Lisa Sillins hoped she’d be OK, but on Wednesday - her employer, Ambulunz, shared that the longtime EMS worker took a tragic turn and died from her injuries.  

Police say the 58-year-old was hit on Friday by a Ford pickup truck while she crossed Robinson Avenue in the city of Newburgh.  

Sillins was critically injured, but everyone held out hope she’d recover.  

Sources tell News 12 the paramedic was crossing four lanes of traffic to get to her car in the Ambulunz employee parking lot at the end of her shift when she was struck.  

Police say Sillins was hit by Pablo Colector, who was allegedly driving drunk. He was arrested and released on an appearance ticket, but an official source says the charges could be upgraded. 

City of Newburgh police are not commenting on the charges now that Sillins has died, and the district attorney’s office will only say the case is under investigation.  

A member of Sillins family released a statement to News 12. 

“Her loss is devastating to family, friends and co-workers. She will be missed by many, including those lives she might have helped each day had this tragedy been avoided,” said Gregory Sillins. 

Ambulunz wrote on Instagram that, “Lisa was a dedicated, caring paramedic and a beloved member of the Ambulunz team. She was a shining light for her teammates, patients and the community she faithfully served.”  

While family, friends and colleagues grieve, Colector, who is from White Plains, was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in court next month.   

New York state law makes it a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison for injuring emergency medical service personnel, but it’s not clear if the law applies in this case.
