State Sen. Terrence Murphy says two Route 6 intersections in northern Westchester and Putnam counties are getting some upgrades.
Murphy describes the intersections at Route 118 in Somers and Union Valley Road in Carmel as "a clogged artery."
On Friday, construction is set to begin to widen and realign the roads. The $2 million project is being funded by the Department of Transportation.
Murphy says there have been many accidents at the two intersections, and the work will hopefully improve safety, in addition to creating more construction jobs.
Most of the work that would require lane closures will be done at night, and there will still be access to all businesses along Route 6.
Officials say the project is expected to be completed by December.
