A Central Islip man has been sentenced to eight years behind bars for violently beating his nephews.
As News 12 has reported, 42-year-old Carlos Ortega pleaded guilty in September to first-degree assault after prosecutors say he beat his two nephews with a metal pipe so badly that one of them had to have his leg amputated.
The incident happened in 2018.

Ortega was brought back earlier this year to face charges.
Ortega was sentenced to 8 years in prison, as well as five years post-release supervision.
