Ahead of Father's Day, a celebrity chef based in Westchester County is paying homage to his roots and invited News 12 along for a kitchen tour!
Anthony Gonçalves is a James Beard-nominated chef who runs Kanopi on the 42nd floor of The Opus in White Plains.
Gonçalves learned to cook from his father, Tony, who was the chef at home and prepared dishes from their native Portugal.
He says a good portion of his menu is inspired by dad's home cooking and their travels together back to Portugal as a family.
And with Father's Day approaching, Goncalves decided to showcase their father-and-son culinary journey by inviting our cameras into the kitchen for the first time!
“It's the hardest and most rewarding thing to be sitting next to this man right here, and to know that Father's Day coming is an important day for us. Grilling - beginning to end because we have to celebrate life and reflect where we come from, as well as where we're going,” says Gonçalves.
Gonçalves says the restaurant will be open for Father’s Day and will be taking a Portuguese spin on American-style barbecue.
