CDC: Nearly 6,000 people have gotten COVID-19 after being vaccinated

Some got seriously ill, and at least 74 of them died.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 5,800 who are vaccinated became been infected with COVID-19 anyway.
They're calling these “vaccine breakthrough infections.”

It's the first indication from the CDC on how effective the vaccines are in real life.
The cases are not unexpected since the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infections.
More similar cases are expected.
The CDC recommends everyone who is eligible should get a vaccine but then continue to follow safety guidelines.
