Drivers who use the Tappan Zee Bridge will soon experience cashless toll lanes.
Beginning April 23, toll booths on the 3-mile span between Westchester and Rockland counties will be eliminated. Lanes one through four of the toll plazas will be closed, and the toll plaza in Tarrytown will be demolished.
Some motorists say they hope the new cashless toll lanes will cut down on wait times at toll booths.
E-ZPass drivers will be able to cross the bridge as usual on the cashless toll lanes on the Rockland side, but must slow to 20 mph through the unmanned toll plazas on the Westchester side. Drivers without E-ZPass will have a monthly bill sent to them.
Motorists who fail to pay a certain number of toll bills will have their registrations suspended.
