A driver is lucky to be alive this morning after their pickup truck flew off a Hutchinson River Parkway overpass and smashed onto a road below.
Police say the one-car crash happened early this morning when the vehicle somehow left the parkway, dropped at least 20 feet down to Mamaroneck Avenue, and landed on its roof.
According to first responders, the man driving
the truck was miraculously sitting on the guardrail when they arrived.
They say he was taken to the hospital, but there is no word on his condition.
Harrison police and fire departments were on the scene, as well as Westchester County police. Traffic was backed up as one lane under the overpass
had to be shut down for about two hours. Crews worked quickly to get the
wreckage towed away and the scene cleared around 7:30 a.m.
First responders tell News 12 that Mamaroneck Avenue is a very busy roadway especially during the
morning rush so it was certainly a lucky break that no cars happened to be
passing through at the time of the accident or it could have been
much worse.
