Car crashes into Monroe home injuring 92-year-old resident and driver

A 92-year-old Monroe resident and a driver were injured after police say a car crashed into a home early Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 2:48 a.m. on High Street near the intersection of Quaker Hill Road. According to Monroe police, a 2012 Honda Accord left the roadway and struck the home.
News 12 obtained surveillance video showing the vehicle veering off the road before crashing into the house.
Police say the 92-year-old resident and the 20-year-old driver were both flown by medical helicopter to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. Their conditions have not been released.
Neighbors say they were jolted awake by the sound of the crash.
“We were sleeping and all of a sudden we heard a bang,” said neighbor Harry Fischer. “We realized a car went right into the house. You couldn’t even see the back of the car because the car was all the way in the house.”
Fischer said off-duty first responders who live nearby rushed over to help before additional emergency crews arrived.
Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified or shown on camera, said she and her family came outside after hearing the impact.
“When we came downstairs, our neighbor was running towards us and he said, ‘My mother is trapped, my mother is trapped,’” she recalled.
The neighbor said police later told her the 92-year-old resident is expected to be OK and had suffered bruising. Monroe police have not officially released the conditions of either person who was injured.
Fischer says he’s concerned about speeding along High Street, describing it as “a raceway.” He says this isn’t the first serious crash at the intersection and believes additional traffic-calming measures, such as speed bumps or guardrails, should be considered.
The incident remains under investigation.
