Hotels in Westchester and across the Hudson Valley have been struggling to stay afloat during the pandemic, but some are finally starting to rebound.
Sean Meade, general manager of the Cambria Hotels and Suites in White Plains, says the hotel has been open during the pandemic. Meade says it's been tough with having to lay off staff and losing business.
The good news for the hotel is that occupancy is now back up to 20%, and it was able to bring back some of its team members.
"We went down to about five employees, we're up to seven now, and each week it gets better and better," says Meade. "We can keep bringing back our employees. We miss them a lot."
Meade says once the airports started opening up again, business slowly picked up.
"This is the busiest week we've had since March," says Meade.
He says the most important thing right now is the safety of staff members and guests. Meade says a lot of hotels are teaming up to make plans for best practices.
