Hundreds of taxi drivers plan to memorialize a cabbie slain in Yonkers with a memorial ride Monday.
The grief-stricken drivers will join the Gutierrez family in retracing the route Geraldo Gutierrez, 29, took before his car crashed into a pole on Saw Mill River Road Thursday. Fernando Mateo, of Hispanics Across America, will join the group.
"We want these guys sentenced as adults, not as juveniles," Mateo said Sunday. "We want to seek the maximum penalty by law, so if that means life in prison, that's what it's gonna be."
According to police, Gutierrez picked up 16-year-old Daquan Duncan at 100 Columbus Ave. in Tuckahoe and drove him to Buckingham Road in Yonkers to meet up with his friend, 16-year-old Adam Arroyo. Duncan allegedly stabbed Gutierrez four times with a large knife.
Gutierrez managed to drive a half-mile before crashing into the pole. He later died at a hospital.
Duncan was arraigned Saturday on a charge of second-degree murder and Arroyo was arraigned on a charge of hindering prosecution.
Relatives said police finding the suspects quickly has done little to ease their pain. "We have his airline ticket," Mateo said. "He was leaving on the 17th of June to be with his wife [in the Dominican Republic], and we're shipping him back in a box."
