Plans for a new state-of-the-art 911 call center in the Bronx could hit a snag over community members' concern about the proposed size of the building.
Residents say the planned 37-story building at 1200 Waters Place - which would be the second largest building in the borough - would dwarf residential homes in the area. They also say that traffic on Pelham Parkway would become unbearable after an estimated 800 employees move into the building.
Officials from the FDNY and NYPD have been pushing for the call center, which would share the responsibility of taking every 911 call in the city with a sister call center in Brooklyn.
At a meeting Thursday night, some residents voiced concern that officials with the emergency-services agencies did not seek their input on the planned call center.
An inspector with the New York City Police Department says the design can no longer be altered, and that if all goes as planned, construction on the building will begin in about two years.
Community leaders plan to take the grievances aired by residents at the meeting to Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr., who is then expected to meet with the emergency-services agencies to work on the complaints.
