Councilman Fernando Cabrera (D-Bronx) is introducing legislation that would allow religious groups to worship inside New York public schools during non-school hours.
The move comes after the Department of Education decided that the Bronx Household of Faith could no longer hold services at P.S. 15. The Supreme Court decided this week not to hear the case.
Cabrera argues that many religious groups run programs that benefit the youth and that prohibiting school services would only hurt young people in the borough.
