Brunch-goers in New York would be able to purchase alcoholic drinks at restaurants and bars beginning at 10 a.m. on Sundays under a compromise worked out by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and top lawmakers.
Called the "brunch bill," the proposal announced Tuesday would also allow a limited number of establishments outside of New York City to begin serving alcohol at 8 a.m.
Current rules prohibit sales before noon.
Earlier Tuesday, Cuomo and lawmakers announced a deal on a plan to combat heroin addiction that will expand insurance coverage for rehabilitation, boost treatment programs and limit many opioid prescriptions to seven days to address a dramatic increase in overdoses.
Lawmakers plan to adjourn their session later this week.
