The brother of a 24-year-old man killed in an accident on the Bronx River Parkway New Year?s Day was charged with drunk driving Friday, police say.
Authorities say Sergio Flores was behind the wheel of an SUV when it crashed into a divider on the left side of the road before swerving across all lanes and slamming into a tree. The driver?s brother, Rafael Flores, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The brothers? cousin, 22-year-old Jorge Flores, suffered minor injuries and was taken with Sergio Flores to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment.
According to preliminary results of the investigation by Westchester County police, the fatal accident was caused by the deadly combination of alcohol and extensive speed.
Sergio Flores is currently not in police custody. He could face additional traffic-related charges after police complete their probe.
