Sad news for pizza lovers in New York City, Domenico DeMarco, owner of the legendary Di Fara pizzeria in Midwood, has died at the age of 85.
The pizzeria was an integral part of the neighborhood for close to 60 years. Patrons of the restaurant and those close to DeMarco say he was one-of-a-kind.
"We basically grew up eating this pizza, and Dominic is a local legend. He's going to be missed," says Jean Remarque, a Midwood resident. "This is like where everybody came to to get a slice of pizza, and it became famous so that was another cool thing."
His daughter shared the sad news on Facebook Thursday calling him the hardest working man she ever knew. Di Fara Pizza was founded in 1965.
