A former Bronx High School of Science teacher is being celebrated for winning the Nobel Prize in Economics.

Claudia Goldin, a professor at Harvard University, received the Nobel Prize for her research. She analyzed over 200 years of data, looking into the reasons for gender gaps in labor and earnings.

"It's a collective source of pride," said Eleanor Coufos, president of The Bronx Science Foundation. "We value the contributions and the recognition the Nobel community provides, and I think it really speaks to... not just the education but the community of the school that everyone is so excited about it."

Seven graduates of the prestigious high school have won Nobel Prizes in physics and one graduate won in chemistry.
