An illegal dumping ground in Melrose has become a major health and safety hazard, residents say. The site, littered with needles, alcohol bottles, trash, and even human feces, has turned into a makeshift drug den.
Residents say the area, located between a parking garage and train tracks, is a hotspot for drug and alcohol use. Someone clipped overdose rescue kits to the fence.
One resident shared her frustration, saying, "They sleep here. They do their drugs here; they drink alcohol every day. It’s all right here."
The Department of Sanitation inspected the area and found it to be private property. They say they will refer the case to their enforcement team who may be able to issue a violation to the property owners. News 12 will provide updates as this story develops.
