Bronx residents living on Commonwealth Avenue, near East Tremont Avenue in Van Nest say a deep pothole is causing concern.

Ring camera captured drivers stopping and checking their cars for damage near the pothole.

One homeowner, who asked News 12 not to be identified, said it started when the city worked on the busy roadway back in July.

“It got worse and worse, and now it’s imperative that [the city comes] out and fix it,” said the Van East homeowner.
But the homeowner said the pothole is only part of the problem.

He said the fire hydrant next to it is broken and the underground pipe is leaking water through the foundation and onto his property.

The homeowner says he is using sandbags to slow the leak and claimed he called 311 more than two dozen times to get it fixed.

“The city just does a job that, you know, they don’t follow up on the job that they’ve done,” said the homeowner.
News 12 reached out to DEP for comment, and three hours later, the agency sent a crew out to fill the pothole.

As for the broken hydrant and leaking, the DEP told News 12 that it will continue to investigate.
