Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced the indictment of a Bronx NYPD officer for allegedly carrying out a COVID-19 fraud scheme.
Edward Delgado, 41, assigned to the 41st Precinct, is accused of receiving over $40,000 in Paycheck Protection Program loans, a program run by the U.S. Small Business Administration, from Feb. to April 2021.
Prosecutors say Delgado applied for two loans of $20,125, claiming to own a security business. He faces grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, falsifying business records and other related charges.
"This defendant is accused of falsely applying for and receiving tens of thousands of dollars in loans that were earmarked for small businesses struggling to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic," said DA Clark. "The allegations are especially egregious given that he is a police officer."
Delgado was arraigned Tuesday and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on April 13.
