Minimum wage workers in the Bronx and statewide will see more green in their paychecks come the new year.
As of January 1, the state's minimum wage will go from $6.75 an hour to $7.15 an hour. The increase is the result of legislation that passed in 2004. While the raise is good news for workers, it's bad news for some storeowners. Storeowners say since 9/11, they have been struggling and fear that paying employees more will push them out of business.
The state labor department says any business that does not follow the new law will face prosecution.
