Bronx man indicted for hate crime, accused of attacking man at knifepoint at Williamsburg subway station

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez says a Bronx man was indicted Wednesday for a hate crime where he allegedly attacked a 24-year-old man and threatened him with a knife at a subway station in Williamsburg.
Yeshayahuw Carraway, 41, is accused of zeroing in on a gay man aboard a northbound L train at around 5 a.m. on Jan. 18 and stating, "What are you looking at f---ing f----t? You're a sissy."
Prosecutors say Carraway followed the man off the train at the Lorimer Street station and upstairs to the mezzanine, where he held the 24-year-old at knifepoint and punched him repeatedly.
Police released photos of Carraway less than a week after the attack. He was arrested on April 18.
"Every New Yorker deserves to ride the subway without being threatened or attacked because of who they are or who someone perceives them to be," said Gonzalez. "We will seek accountability for this alleged hate crime and will always stand with Brooklyn's LGBTQ+ community against violence, intimidation, and hate."
Carraway faces a slew of charges, including assault as a hate crime, assault, menacing as a hate crime, menacing and aggravated harassment.
He was released without bail and ordered to return to court on Aug. 12.
