Bronx Jews remembered the Holocaust Friday as some victims reflected on the horrors they faced and how they survived.
People at the Kittay House in Kingsbridge Heights marked Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, with a memorial ceremony filled with music, poetry and reflection. Six candles were lit by Holocaust survivors living at the senior living facility.
Etta Riegler, one of those survivors, says that she couldn't talk about the Holocaust for years. Even now, she says people can never truly understand what it was like to live through.
"Because they didn't go through it, they didn't have the same feeling," says Riegler. "How could you understand what I went through, and I'm alive to talk about it?"
