Briarcliff Manor's top cop has been suspended.
Police Chief Norman Campion was suspended without pay following a meeting of the Village Board of Trustees. Officials have refused to say why Campion has been suspended, calling it "a personnel matter."
Campion has been with the department for 27 years, the last 11 as chief.
Some residents were surprised to learn that Campion was suspended. They say they have a right to know what is going on.
However, Phillip Zegarelli, the village manager, says state law bars them from discussing anything about disciplinary actions against police officers.
Officials say Lt. Donald Gorey will oversee the department while Campion is on suspension.
