A man was killed after being struck by an Amtrak train just north of the Cortlandt Train Station Wednesday night.
MTA officers say Brian McCallum, 27, of Verplanck, suddenly ran off the north end of the platform at the station and was struck by the train just before 10 p.m. last night. He landed in a rocky path near a wooded area about 10 feet from the end of the platform and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, an Amtrak train was traveling up to Albany and was not scheduled to stop at the Metro-North train station in Cortlandt.
MTA officers say the train's engineer reported that he was passing through the station at about 60 mph. The train was carrying 112 passengers when the accident occurred and no one on board was injured.
The accident caused delays of up to 45 minutes for trains headed to Poughkeepsie, while police conducted their investigation.
Police say so far there does not appear to be any foul play involved, but they are still investigating.
