A big vote is coming Tuesday for voters in Ossining. They will weigh in on a $210 million bond proposal from the Ossining Union Free School District.
"It takes a village to raise all these kids so the more we can help the town and schools, I'm all for it," says Ossining resident Amy Herrera.
The proposal is aimed at making major improvements and renovations to schools in the district. That includes creating more classrooms along with several other significant upgrades.
"A new middle school building, the district purchased the church next to the high school a couple years ago and we are able to restore it and turn it into useful space," says Christine Mangiamele, school board president with the Ossining Union Free School District.
One of the big goals is to address overcrowding in the schools.
"If you could see our cafeteria, there really isn't enough space for everybody. Right now, we are at a room use rate at the high school of 100%, which means there are times when two courses are being taught concurrently in the same room," says Mangiamele.
The upgrades would not increase the tax levy.
