A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of an Orange County social services building in Newburgh on Tuesday, officials say.

According to the Orange County Office of Emergency Management, 911 was alerted to a threat at the building. City of Newburgh Police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police responded to the scene.

The building, located at 3 Washington Center, was evacuated as a precaution. OEM officials said the incident appeared to be isolated, and police were working to identify the caller.

The building is adjacent to the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus. A spokesperson for SUNY Orange told News 12 the building is not part of the college’s campus and there were no operational or instructional disruptions as a result of the scare.

Tuesday’s evacuation comes after two reported bomb scares in 2023 at the nearby county office building on Broadway, just down the street.

A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation.
