AB Davis Middle School in Mount Vernon was evacuated Wednesday after a woman made a threatening phone call that turned out to be a hoax, police say.
According to police, the woman threatened to ?blow the school up? forcing the district to force an early dismissal almost an hour before regular dismissal at 2:50 p.m.
Emergency service trucks surrounded the school and blocked off Gramatan Avenue. Parents arrived at the school to pick up their children, and grew concerned with the situation. Some were not aware of the bomb scare but were glad their children were safe.
Mount Vernon police say officers found no suspicious or dangerous items in the school. They are uncertain as to where the call came from. They also say the case is still being investigated.
Police say anyone caught calling in a false threat could face up to a year behind bars. School officials say if the caller was a student, he or she could be suspended or permanently expelled in any district.
