The Orange County medical examiner is working to identify a body police pulled out of the Hudson River in Cornwall Saturday.

Police have been monitoring the area since kayaker Vincent Viafore, of Poughkeepsie, went missing more than a month ago. Viafore, 46, was last seen in the area kayaking with his fiancee, Angelika Graswald. Police say the couple had paddled out from Plum Point Park into dangerous conditions.

Investigators have not officially identified the body, but sources tell News 12 that it is likely Viafore.

Graswald, 35, reportedly told police that Viafore likely drowned after falling out of his kayak without a life jacket, but investigators cited inconsistencies in her story when they arrested her earlier this month.

Graswald was charged with second-degree murder in connection with his disappearance after admitting to tampering with his kayak. Prosecutors say the fiancee told police that it "felt good knowing that he was going to die."

Prosecutors also allege that Graswald talked about what she would do with the $250,000 payout from Viafore's life insurance policy.

Graswald is a Latvian native who speaks Russian. Her attorney says there was a language barrier when she spoke with investigators and made those statements.

Defense lawyers say the clothing on the body is similar to what was worn by Viafore when he was last seen. They are requesting to observe the autopsy that is yet to be performed by medical examiners.

Graswald is yet to enter a plea. Her bail has been set at $3 million cash or $9 million bond.
