Police have released body cam footage that captures the terrifying moments the Maybrook Police chief was shot during a deadly altercation with a man barricaded in an apartment.
The video shows the intense final two minutes and 30 seconds of Tuesday's confrontation between 28-year-old Anthony Bostick and Maybrook police.
Cops were attempting to remove Bostick him from a third-floor apartment on Abby Avenue after a domestic dispute when Bostick opened fire on them.
The footage shows Maybrook Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthur slumping to the ground after taking a bullet to the shoulder.
As officers tended to their 51-year-old injured chief, another shot rang out and officers could be heard yelling "he just shot himself."
A self-inflicted gunshot wound left Bostick dead.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says the complete video along with an independent report will be made public once the investigation is complete. "It appears, based on preliminary investigation with the video and what we saw of the scene, that the police acted reasonable and justifiable."
Chief Amthor is expected to make a full recovery.
