Blooming Grove officials have announced an investment in a new water filtration system after residents say their water has been discolored for years.

Residents say sometimes their water is clear and other times it is brown.

"I'm paying $52 a month now to get Poland Spring delivered to my house," says Donna McGoldrick.

Village officials announced the new investment Monday.

They say right now, the wells cannot keep up with the demand for water. When one well for a section of the village runs low, water is pulled from another well.

The water is then rerouted in the opposite direction of its intended route, causing elements like iron and manganese to fall off the pipe and into the water -- turning it brown.

South Blooming Grove Mayor James LoFranco released a statement saying in part, "Even if the state does not deem this project worthy of funding, the village will move forward on the filtration system. It is going to be costly but the Village of South Blooming Grove deserves a permanent fix to this problem."

Some residents are glad, but say it's taken a long time for change to happen.

"We have to go down there and kind of, really like corner them, and now all of a sudden you know, they're all eager," McGoldrick says. "This has been going on for a long time."

According to documentation handed out at the village meeting, officials hope to have the new $1.2 million system up and running in October 2020.
