New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn paid a Thanksgiving Day visit to a soup kitchen in the Bronx that provides holiday meals to the needy.
The mayor carved a holiday turkey and mingled with volunteers who donated their time in order to make sure that no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving.
?A real pleasure to see something we're doing helps people,? says Steve Fairchild, who volunteers at the soup kitchen run by Our Lady of Refuge Church.
Bloomberg encouraged people to come out and help those in need anyway they can.
?Never say, '[It?s] never going to happen to me,' ? the mayor says. "You don't know, it may be you that needs the help down the road.?
The mayor also stopped by the neighborhood?s 52nd Precinct, where police officers lined up to greet him. Once inside, Bloomberg signed the log book and thanked Bronx officers for their work.
