Delite Bake Shop off of Yonkers Avenue has been a large part of this community for the last 8o years. But on July 13, a fire left behind serious damage that forced the bakery to temporarily close until they could start making repairs.
That time has finally come. Eric Jeraci, the general manager of the bakery, says they had to wait to get the all-clear from fire officials.
Now that they have, renovations and restoration efforts have started.
The main damage was to the kitchen and in the basement but the flames also took out a lot of important equipment and tools.
Jeraci says dealing with the aftermath of this fire has been difficult, but they are looking forward to what's ahead.
"It's very sad to see the bakery like this, just empty and not much happening but I am starting to get optimistic now that we are starting to clean up and do what needs to be done," says Jeraci.
A set time frame of when the bakery will officially reopen is not clear right now.
The fire happened when the bakery was closed, no one was hurt.
