Members of the Bay Shore community demanded answers from the school board at an emotional meeting Wednesday night over the sex abuse charges against a former teacher.
Former third-grade teacher Thomas Bernagozzi is criminally charged with abusing two of his former students and accused in civil court of abusing many others.
Several of Bernagozzi’s alleged victims attended Wednesday’s meeting. Community members wore matching T-shirts to show support.
Those in attendance demanded transparency from the school board, and a plan to keep kids safe.
School Board President Louis Bettinelli says eight civil claims have been settled without going to trial.
The trial in another case is scheduled to begin Oct. 24.
