The Ridge Hill development project has been the subject of controversy since it was first proposed. Many of those who object to the project believe that it will bring more traffic and drastically change the landscape of the neighborhood.
In Part II of The Battle of Ridge Hill, News 12 Westchester highlights some of the objections to the $600 million development project.
Forest City Ratner is planning to build 1.3 million square feet of retail and entertainment at the 81-acre site located off the New York State Thruway. The plan includes restaurants and movie theatres, 160,000 square feet of office space, a 175-room hotel with a conference center and 1,000 residential units to rent or buy.
Many in the community are not opposed to the project, but rather how developer Ratner plans to do it. They don't believe most of the cars will travel along the thruway to the development but think drivers will use local streets, which will become congested. Civic leaders are also calling for more creative engineering. Other concerns about the project include a change to the peaceful, natural landscape of their neighborhood.
News 12 Westchester will hold a special town meeting Wednesday, March 8 at the Royal Regency Hotel on Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers. Anyone wishing to participate should arrive by 7:15 p.m. The live show will start at 8 p.m.
