The borough is losing another bookstore.
Barnes & Noble will close the chapter on its location at the Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City, which has been a stable fixture there for nearly two decades.
The closure comes just months after the opening of the new mall, operated by Prestige Properties. Barnes & Noble claims the new owner told the bookstore that others were willing to pay much more for its leased space.
However, Prestige Properties argues that it was Barnes & Noble that declined to renew its lease and keep a space at the new plaza.
Lehman College graduate student Amelia Zaino is now petitioning to save the bookseller. She says her online petition has so far inked 1,000 signatures.
