Several bags of decomposing animal remains, including a beheaded goat, were found on the side of the road in Yorktown Monday night.
Police say a driver pulled over along Route 129 near Underhill Avenue to take a phone call. The driver allegedly found several bags full of animal remains, including several decaying carcasses, nearby.
The Westchester SPCA says necropsies will be performed to determine how the animals died.
SPCA officials do not believe this incident is connected to the case where more than two dozen dead cats were found hanging from trees in plastic bags in Yonkers. It has been categorized as animal cruelty because of the condition of the animals and how they were found dumped on the side of the road.
There are several farms near the site, but investigators say there have been no reports of animals missing.
Necropsy results are expected by the end of the week.
