Business is ramping up at Azteca Bakery as people prepare for Dia De Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.
The Mexican holiday that dates back to the 1500s honors lost loved ones and invites their spirit back for the day.
Azteca Bakery manager Jose Escobar says they have been getting customers all day buying their traditional Mexican bread.
“We prebaked some yesterday and are making more today. Yeah, we have a lot of orders today," said Escobar.
He says people are buying bread like mona, which is shaped like a body to represent a dead loved one. This bread is then placed at the alter as an offering.
Derek Torres told News 12 he has his altar set up at home and came to the bakery to get the finishing piece.
"Yeah, I actually did at home. I put up pictures of lost ones and put candies at the altar," says Torres.
Other than traditional bread, people use flowers, skulls and place pictures of their dead loved ones at the altar on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
