Two Long Island women are breaking barriers in the auto repair industry while creating a space they say makes customers — especially women — feel more comfortable asking questions about their vehicles.

Maryam Mirza and Tamia Robinson opened Auto Care Girls in Deer Park two years ago with the goal of making auto care more approachable. The shop offers services including window tinting, vinyl wraps and paint protection film, while certified mechanics handle repairs and maintenance.

Mirza says a recent TikTok video inviting women to reach out for car help received tens of thousands of views, leading to an influx of customers seeking assistance with vehicle issues, including broken air conditioning during the summer heat.

The business owners say they understand that many people can find auto repair intimidating. They strive to create a welcoming environment where customers can learn about their vehicles and feel confident asking questions throughout the repair process.

Their mission extends beyond the shop. Auto Care Girls hosts hands-on workshops that teach basic vehicle maintenance and car care skills, with the hope of encouraging more women to pursue careers in the automotive industry.

Mirza and Robinson say they want to challenge stereotypes about who belongs in the field and prove that automotive work is not limited by gender.

“We are capable,” Mirza said. “People don’t think that you could be a woman and know anything about cars, and that’s a lie.”

The co-owners hope their growing business inspires the next generation of women to consider careers in the automotive industry — and perhaps one day join their team.
