Police say that a 36-year-old was stabbed in Yonkers by a teen Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses say a large and wild fight broke out among high school kids on New Main Street in Getty Square just before 4 p.m.
Bystanders say it got so crowded that cars or buses couldn't pass down the busy street. They say dozens of people were flocking around the fight, with some trying to intervene.
"They were swinging punches, they were swinging punches... People out here were trying to separate them as best as possible," says witness Kevin Ruiz.
While it isn't clear who was fighting whom, police say it ended when a teen pulled out a knife and stabbed the 36-year-old Yonkers man in the stomach and thigh.
They say the suspect then fled.
Those who live in the area say violence among young people is not uncommon.
"As a youth growing up around here I don't think I should have to deal with that because it's dangerous first of all and it's pretty transmitting," says Chris Ali of Yonkers.
The victim walked to St Joseph's Hospital where he remains in stable condition.
Police describe the suspect as a juvenile male with braided hair and wearing a red shirt.
They say they are interviewing witnesses and trying to get surveillance video from one of the stores on the street.
