Two dozen people are homeless and several businesses are up in smoke following a four-alarm fire in Dutchess County.
Livelihoods and homes were turned to ashes after what began as a small fire spread quicker than crews could extinguish at 10 Market Street in Wappingers Falls.
A total of four businesses were destroyed, including Mario's Sandwich company, which recently celebrated its three-month anniversary.
The fire chief tells News 12 the flames started on the outside of the second floor. The fast moving fire left at least 25 people homeless. Displaced families are being assisted by the Red Cross.
One firefighter was injured in the fire. His condition is unknown. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The supervisor of Wappingers Falls started a GoFundMe page for displaced victims, and Café Con Leche is providing food for victims.
