Fire investigators are looking at whether a fire at a three-story apartment building in Yonkers Wednesday morning was started intentionally.
Fire officials say they got a call at around 10 a.m. about a fire at 56 Groshon Ave.
Dozens of Yonkers firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze as neighbors and their pets shivered in the below-freezing temperatures.
Tenants in the apartment building next door were also evacuated as a precaution.
As the fire raged, word began to spread that the fire was not an accident. Residents say someone was overheard threatening to burn down the building during a domestic dispute between a couple there.
The Red Cross is working to find temporary shelter for the at least 18 adults and 20 children left homeless by the fire.
