News 12 has confirmed that an arrest was made after a day of violence at Middletown High School last month. 

Middletown Mayor Joe Destefano confirmed the arrest on Thursday following several brawls on campus and an alleged security breach that were caught on camera Nov. 16. 

His office previously denied our request for the information under the Freedom of Information law after police from multiple agencies were called to the school and classes were canceled the next day. 

News 12 reached out to the City of Middletown Police Department four times by email between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27 for updated information but didn’t receive a response. We left a voicemail message for Chief John Ewanciw that was not returned. 

District Superintendent Amy Creeden also denied requests for information about any law enforcement action and said, “The information you are requesting is not directory information and not for publication. All young people and adults have privacy considerations.”

Several district parents have reached out to News 12 concerned by an alleged lack of information following the incidents, citing unconfirmed reports that at least one staff member was injured and that someone may have been stabbed in back-to-back melees. 

The district denies those reports. 

News 12 has been unable to confirm if an adult or a student was charged, or what the charge is for.
