For Democratic candidates for the 19th Congressional District are hoping their anti-Iraqi war sentiment will give them the chance to unseat Congresswoman Sue Kelly (R-Katonah).
Former rock musician John Hall, of Dutchess County, says it is time to get Democrats on Capitol Hill when Republicans are controlling all three branches of government. He hopes to convince voters of that. Hall says U.S. troops withdrawing from Iraq are his top concern. Judy Aydelott, of Katonah, says saving Medicare and ending the war are her first priorities. Ben Shuldiner, of Cortlandt, is a principal at a Brooklyn high school. He also wants the U.S. out Iraq as soon as possible. While Darren Rigger, of Peekskill, feels his background as a foreign policy expert can get the U.S. out of Iraq.
Polls showing voter dissatisfaction with the war and the Bush administration are among the reasons why Democrats are hopeful they can take control of Congress this year. On September 12 Democrats will choose one of the four contenders to challenge Kelly, who is seeking her sixth term in Congress.
