A Mount Vernon man is among three alleged gang members charged with attempted murder. 

Officials say Kendall Newland, 25, has been taken into federal custody.

They say Newland and two other gang members were detained at the Vernon C. Bain center in the Bronx when they allegedly attempted to kill a fellow inmate in order to advance their position in the gang.

Newland is due back in court on Friday.
