A 23-year-old is banned from Airbnb after damaging a rental home on the Hudson.
Nicko Feinberg, a resident of Grand View-on-Hudson, rented out his home during the holidays through Airbnb. When he returned on Jan. 2, he says he found party remnants, cracked walls, damaged floors and broken railings.
Feinberg describes coming home to an empty alcohol cabinet and a leaking Jacuzzi.
He says the renters removed the furniture to make room for a DJ and a dance floor, taking down his pricey artwork to put up posters.
Ashes from marijuana and cigarettes were found throughout the home. A glass railing along the stairs was broken.
Feinberg then discovered that the renters had posted a video calling out the damage on Instagram, in which a person yells, “What are you doing? You broke the glass."
Feinberg tells News 12 that he immediately called Airbnb and received a response 36 hours later.
“We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior,” said Airbnb in a statement. “We have permanently banned the individual from our platform and we are fully supporting our host.”
Feinberg estimates that his total damages exceed $100,000.
“Everything can be fixed and replaced,” he said. “I just hoped they learned a lesson.”
The homeowner tells News 12 that he is hopeful that Airbnb will cover the cost of the damages under its host guarantee.
